How to fix Indesit IWDC6125 Machine ?

My boyfriend put his converse in there on the express wash and dry setting like a complete plank and after that all the lights flash, the machine makes a sound as if its trying to drain constantly, the red door shut light is on but u can open the door. The drum isn't spinning. Cant set it to a programme. Have had the machine off for a while and plugged it back in, after a few minutes it starts the same noise and lights over again. Any ideas?

Boyfriends an electrician so he wants to try repairing it but i want some ideas on what it might actually be before i let him loose opening it up.
