New Ink cartridge to HP printer Officejet 4500 series will not printer?

Fitted ink catridge to printer, but it will not print. Re not ~HP but from Ink manufacture. Re-booted serveral times but still does not print.
Put old ink cartridge of HP in machine, will work but will not print black because it run out. ?????

They often make the printer capable of detecting is it's an official cartridge - will not accept a foreign cartridge.

It is sometimes almost as cheap to buy a new printer instead of manufacturer's cartridges.
