You have a small leak in the gear box. Sometimes more frequent use will solve the problem but maybe you need a new gear box seal. Contact Kitchenaid as all the parts for the K-45 are readily available. This was the most popular mixer ever made and is still produced by Kitchenaid under a slightly different model number. Don't forget to refill the gear box with the proper recommended lubricant!
