Ideal Classic LX LXFF 260 problem?

How can I tell if the system is gravity fed or controlled pump. Just moved into a new house (new to us) & info from previous h/holders not very forthcoming. Heating system seemed to work independently of hot water but now it seems you need the hw on to let the ch work. Maintenance man came out few weeks ago for our new contract & said all was working but my husband didn't ask if hw was needed to work ch too. It seems to be intermittent, is this possible or is it faulty? Thanks

It will more than likely be a fully pumped system with this appliance; go take a look in your airing cupboard to be sure though.

With gravity systems the pipes will pop up through the floor and connect direct to the cylinder.

With fully pumped systems you will have your pump; then it will connect into a valve (Possibly more than 1) which then go to your cylinder and will disappear under the floor to your heating circuit.

If gravity; the system is working correct.

If fully pumped;
a) the system is either wired incorrectly (Get an electrician or heating sparky)
b) the clock just needs swapping to "fully pumped" mode
c) the heating zone valve microswitch is knackard (If S-Plan)
d) the midposition valve is knackard (If Y-Plan)
e) clock is faulty

Get your heating engineer back and get them to sit down and explain your system to you - It will inevitably save them time in the long run; especially if you are on a cover scheme like the homecare scheme offered by B.Gas
