its not the pipe being detached that is making it cut out its the fact that the new exhaust is free flowing and needs more fuel to compensate for it the pipe you are talking about should go to a pump that is bolted on next to the barrel and just recycles the air in the exhaust its a losd of cr*p,just block it off and get a bigger main jet for your carb it will stop bogging down at high speed then ,ok
