How to repair Kitchen-Aid blender?

How does the rubber-drive coupling come off: pressed, or threaded?

The coupling is a clockwise thread, and the shaft can be held with a 7mm open end. OK to force 7mm open end under the coupling, turn coupling clock wise to remove. Alternatively, the inside of the coupling is made of aluminum and softer then the shaft. You can carefully pry off the coupling with a screw driver or equivalent. Move around the coupling as you do. Remove any aluminum left on the blender base shaft thread. No harm to the coupling as you need to replace it anyway.

I tried grinding a Craftsman Ignition wrench. Even though i did not overheat the wrench in the grinding process, when I got through the wrench was so soft it sprung. Apparently the hardnes was just a case hardness on the surface of the wrench. I dont' remember the size of the wrench i used, since I tried this about a year ago. For now i am not going to ruine another wrench to try it again.

I believe it screws on with a left-handed thread (turn clockwise to loosen). I have a replacement for mine sitting on the counter and I'll be replacing it soon.

I've read that the shaft fits a 7mm wrench (which you may have to grind down to get it thin enough to slip between the coupler and the base). You use the 7mm wrench to hold the haft stationary while you loosen the coupler.

There are two flat sides on the motor shaft which allow you to hold the shaft and unscrew the coupler. I had to grind down a midget wrench so that it was thin enough to fit on the shaft below the coupling. I think sometimes these wrenches are also called ignition wrenches. I used a 7mm wrench but after getting it off it looks like a 9/32" would also have worked. Hope this helps.

I've just purchased a spare rubber coupler... and it's a left hand thread. So presumably it screws on. Problem is - how do you stop the motor spindle rotating? Other than taking the casing apart and going from there? There must be a shortcut.....
