How can I fix my Pulsacoil Boiler?

I have had mine repaired several times and it has leaked and ruined the wooden floor.
I wrote to Glenhill last year but got no reply.
It has now gone wrong again so looking to replace it with something more reliable.
Any ideas

Hi i have a Pulsa coil 3 which has working ok initially. Needed
To replace immersions after they went...however after replacing
My off peak is now not working. Peak is ok. Is this a cable
Issue any idea? Pump is ok and peak is ok but no heat coming
Through in the off peak element eventhough its brand new.

Depending on the region you live, there are some independent Specialists out there, mainly formal top engineers of Gledhill and now working independent, to fix your problems with any Gledhill Product. The Manufacturer decided to sack all of his highly qualified field engineers and is now going for factory staff to reduce their cost. Result is, a lot of very confused and disappointed customer. But you always can call their technical helpline for £ 0,90/ minute to get help. Alternatively of course you can go for the Gledhill repair forum ( free) for help and advice. There is also a list of competent engineers , if you need one.

I have a pulsacoil3 and a small amount of water is dripping from the upper element, does anyone know what the problem could be?

You can pay british gas a flat fee and we will repair them for you. I will be honest and say that I have only worked on one of these units once (we usually work on the systemate which utilises central heating water). Anyway, the most common fault with these tanks is that they run dry. Above the tank will be a plastic F&E tank with a ball valve. If they are dry, you will most likely find that they are turned off via an isolating valve. Turn the valve on and allow the store to fill up. Once it is full, make sure you leave a few inches in the F&E tank and that you seal it tightly with the lid. With regards to the pumps, there are 2 fitted. One circulates the store, the other pulls water into the plate heat exchanger when you draw hot water. Gledhill use variable voltage pumps - you need to make sure that they are set on speed 3. If the pump is very hot and not spinning, you can try and release it by undoing the slotted screw on the front (catch the excess water, and make sure you have switched it off from the electrics). Place your screw driver onto the impeller shaft and spin it.

I had my PulsaCoil Class A mended recently and was told that, as it is permanently switched on (by two switches on the wall), it is basically keeping an enormous quantity of water permanently hot. This is, according to the plumber who fixed it, incredible inefficient and I should be fitting a timer to it. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do this/what timer to buy/whether it's possible for a layman to do it?

When you switch the boost on it will stay on until the next 'on' time for the off peak. It will then revert to being off.

HI - NEED YOUR ADVICE, I HAVE A PUSLASCOIL A CLASS, ON WHICH THE BOOSTER BUTTON HAS BEEN DISABLED BY THE BUILDERS. THE thing is when I switch it on, it is on at random times of the day and for long periods of time so very very hot and expensive electriviy bills. I've taken the front panelling off but cannot don't know HOW TO SET THE TIMER. aAny advice???

I have a Pulsacoil A Class Boiler. I seem to have problem with the time switch. The timer does not come as set and I am having to use the booster switch.

Has anyone had simlar problem and what did they do to fix this

we have 1 of these pulsa coils in our flat and is nothing but trouble, kept an eye on the levels in the feeder tank,. then checked recently and it was completely empty, now the bl**dy thing isnt working at all, having trouble finding a heating engineer who knows anything about them, i need help

Until recently, McCarthy & Stone fitted Pulsa Coil boilers in all their new developments. It was M&S policy to keep the boilers 'ON' at all times - even when the flat was unsold. In some instances this could be months or years. In consequence, lime scale and other detritus settled in the impeller and jammed the pump( in most cases the pump was a GRUNDFUS); as the pump only functions when the hot water suppy is actually turned on, via a tap. Thus, when the flat was occupied, and the hot water taps turned on, the pump impeller failed to rotate = no hot water! What too do!
Remove outer cover from pump, underneath is a slotted screw head, insert screwdriver and turn, HARD, clockwise. TURN ON ALLHOT taps first. That should do it. If not, the pump will have to be cleaned out. This is NOT a major task. A plumber will normally just fit a new pump and charge around £130 inc' vat. What too do!
Isolate boiler at main electricity box, undo three wires from pump connection to electrical supply (note wire colour code, and three connections screws for re-wire). You DO NOT have to drain the tank. The pump is connected by two unions, above and below. The unions each inccorporate a slotted screw head. Turn screw heads 90 degrees, this will turn off the water supply to the pump. Undo the two union nuts that hold the pump (WRENCH or STILSONS required), then remove. A small amount of water will issue from the top union - use a bucket. The pump is assembled with four screws, you will need ALLEN KEYS.
Remove pump cover, clean out pump, re-assemble, and replace. Set pump to max speed in hard water areas, slower if soft water area.

If there is air in the pump after refitting, remove pump cover, and turn screw (as described above). Allow water to squirt out from running pump, until all air is expelled, tighten screw head.* NOTE, YOU WILL NEED A BUCKET TO CATCH THE WATER AND THE WATER WILL BE *HOT* !!!!! I have carried out this procedure several times, it only takes about one hour.

Hi, we have a similar problem as above, the water from the hot tap is running luke warm then cold. We've moved into a recently built flat. Which has been bought via a Housing Association. The defects period with them has literally just ended and they have said that they can't ask the Contractor to contact Glenhill on our behalf. So we contacted Glenhill directly but they have said they can't help until they're contacted by the Contractor!!!! Can anyone help please...

Thanks Mr Gas, me and my uncle actually cracked it this morning. The motor was seized due to the boiler being off for so long. A new motor will sort it for anyone with the same problem. We managed to free the motor up with a little force and persistance however, whilst the hot taps were running.

These are unusual units and you need to find someone who understands how they work. It sounds to me like the flow switch that operates the pump may not be working. Contact the manafacturer Glenhill for advice on service agents in your area
