My new dishwasher does not fill therefore not washing the dishes?

My new dishwasher does not let very much water in before it goes to the wash cycle therefore there is no water to clean the dishes. The manual said to check the float, I did lift it up and the top of the float just comes off. I do get a little bit of water filling at the beginning of the cycle, but doesn't even fill the bottom of the tub. So my dishes do not get clean. This is brand new Whirlpool what now?? This is a Whirlpool Model no. DU810SWPQ0 810 811 series
