How do I remove the power on/off switch on my Dyson DC 01?

I have tried the screwdriver technique and photo advise for the DC 04 without success. It seems a different arrangement. BTW, this is to reinsert the electric cable into safety grips.

Hi, Just go to www.dyson-online.com and check out their technical advice section. The site is fantastic! Good luck.

I have a DC01 (circa 1998) and experienced the cleaner cutting out, every now and then. To the end where it burnt a hole in the cable at the insertion point below the on/off switch. Take away the drum/dust collector part and there is a screw of the six star variety which holds a plate which when removed reveals the cable connection and everything else. (Try in your drill/screw bit collection for the six star shaped head.) Cut the cable, removing the burnt frayed part and rewired. The brown cable goes into a crimper in a plastic sheath. Slip a small flat screwdriver inside this carefully and you should be able to remove the crimper.

replace the crimper, as some folks have said with replacements from Maplins or try and prize open the crimped parts and replace with new end of cable wire.
Re-assemble. No need to remove the on/off switch for this DC01.

www.scrubvac.com do a special tool for £3.99 - just ordered one so I dunno if it does the trick, but got nowhere with paper clips or jewellers screwdrivers.
If you ring Dyson they keep you in a queue for 10 mins then tell you they can';t give technical advice in case you injure yourself, and suggest a dealer repair at £39.!!!

look down on the top of the on/off button - there is a small slot on the inside of the button - push a jewellers screwdriver into the slot - the button release is via a tab, when this is depressed, you can then ease the on/off button out, this will then give access to a screw on the switch which when released will allow you to maintain the switch.
