Countdown timer?

I have the hotpoint wf860. During the washing stage the countdown timer reaches a 1 minute left and sticks there for several hours only cancelling will resolve the issue, it seems to be happening more and more recently does anyone know what this is and how to fix it, it is out of warranty so taking it back is not going to happen. many thanks
