Mend Craftsman 917.271552 Lawn Tractor No Start

15.5 hp lawn tractor will not start?

.My son left the key on after the tractor ran out of gas. I was this way for a week before I went to use it again. With a fully charged battery I get nothing when I turn the key. I can cross the terminals on the solanoid and the engine will turn but with the key on it still will not start. I'm not getting any spark from the spark plug eather. I've changed the solanoid but not the magneto. What could be causing the problem?
