Bosch WFF 1401 won't stop filling with water?

The water keeps coming into the washing machine until it's way higher than usual + it then starts leaking out of the front door, which is kind of acting as a safety value.

What decides when the water is switched off? Is it timed and so should I replace the electronic module, or is there a sensor. I can't see any sensors on the drum except some at the bottom on the back, but I don't know what these are for.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your excellent information.

The problem proved to be a soap blockage in the plastic part attached to the back of the tub (at the bottom) which the hose to the sensor plugs into.

I suppose we shouldn't use cheap soap powder, but it is very satisfying to fix a problem for free + I would have struggled to do so without this information. Keep up the good work!

Usually a pressure sensor is somewhere found quite high in the machine, screwed against the side. It is in Bosch macines mostly a round box, with a thin hose connected to it, leading to the tub. A bunch of wires leads from it to the control system.
When the water rises in the tub, air is pressed in the hose and a membraneswitch will operate. Often there are two switches, for low and high water level. This part sometimes sticks or the membrane leaks. Replacing is quite easy, another brand or universal type can often be found that works as well.

It can be tested by blowing into the opening, apllying some pressure till you hear a soft click inside (or not...)
