How do you test a clutch?

I have been told that the vehicle I just bought had a dodgy clutch, by a previous owner, It seems fine to me but I should like to be sure. The vehicle is a 1996 suzuki Vitara. Regards AL.

Hello Alan,
Drive your car up to a kerb face on, select first gear and let the clutch up slowly, it should stall, or put the handbrake on fully and do the same thing, if it does not stall then the clutch is slipping.
