Polti Vaporetto 2300 water filling cap stuck?

I can't get the water filling compartment cap off - it just spins round and round. I haven't used it for a few months so it's cold and not full of steam - perhaps just air vacuum. I think it has a calcium build up (insufficient steam coming out) and I want to clean it through completely. Can anyone help

takes forever even when you finally get it off, now I cannot get it back on????I would use more but this totally frustrates me..

Is there any water at all in the Polti?
If so, I would steam the machine up and then try and remove the filling cap. Make sure you push the cap down as you turn it as this breaks the seal on the pressure.
