E40 - re occuring response (error) Zanusi 1200 washing machine?

Recently every time I tried to use my Zanusi Jet system 1200; the green start button flashes before it is even pressed to start the machine, and then I hear a contiuous bleep and see (E 40) on the disply.

I'd would be grateful if you explain this situation/ error and advice me on how to deal with it.
