Windows not loading?

I am using ME with AVG anti virus, no-adaware and Zone Alarms firewall.
Recently i am having a lot of trouble with windows not loading at start up or locking up part loaded leaving me to switch it all of and either it restarts in safe mode or with the Scan disc check which again locks up sometimes.
Occasionally it will load correctly but as soon as i try to do any thing it locks up.
When eventually i do get it to load after the trouble the PC works fine.
I have done all the updates and scans which also dump my Temporary Internet files and there is an improvement but after a few days it all returns again to not loading.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have done the safe mode restart and it does load OK but after a few days the problem returns and i do it again.
I have found that it seems to occur after AVG free downloads which i have now disabled.
I have also found that by running C-Cleaner and deleting temporary internet files and cookies the problem is again solved for a few days. Whether the two are linked i am not sure but time will tell.

start in windows safe mode. once it is loaded up , shutdown ( not restart) the computer. turn computer on again . doing this loads all default drivers and should start up normally again. if not , go to msconfig and disable startup items, disable those that you know you installed recently as this should be the problem
