Mend Briggs & Stratton 287707 Starter Start Timing

replaced starter ring won't start 14.5 B&S OHV?

is there a possibility of changing the timing installing a starter ring?? I reset the lash I@4000 E@6000. It turns over nicely but backfires and won't start like it is out of time. If so, how do you retime the little sucker??? You have probably figured out I ain't no mechanic.

Briggs & Stratton Briggs & Stratton 287707 Garden Tools, Lawn Mowers Starter Start Timing

Nothing springs to mind, but when you put the flywheel back on, did you replace the locating key? If so, you MUST use the correct one. If you use a steel key and it should be non-ferrous, it will change the timing.

Not likely, but possible.
