bissell lift off bagless vacuum cleaner?

My lift off canister part will not function (turn on) unless plugged into the base. and the brush starts and stops working. Obviously something is worng somewhere in the electrical. I have taken the base apart and cleaned all wires looked in tact so I cannot figure out where I have a bad connection. Also the light doesn't work. it could be just burnt out or it could be part of the bad connection. Any advise

I sat down with a Phillips head screwdriver, set the canister portion aside, made sure the unit was unplugged, then removed every screw from "base unit" of the vacuum. Kept the screws orderly so I knew where to replace them. Before removing each piece, take a good look at how it is seated into the base. This is surprisingly easy to do, if you are even a tiny bit handy. Once I got the red cap to the base unit off, I could investigate everything inside. Look at your electrical connection/wires, and jiggle them around a little bit. Look for any other problems in there. Then put it all back together, in reverse order. Once I did this, the electrical connection from the canister unit to the base unit started working again.

i have just replaced the rubber belt on my brush, but is still smelling a little of burnt rubber. Since fitting the band it is extremely noisey!!! not sure if it is on its way out!!!! have tried to re-order another of the pet lift-0ff model and it is now discontinued!!! what will i do??? it has been the best cleaner I have owned (and i have owned lots as i wear them out so quickly!!!! even though i clean the filters every 2 or 3 uses. I found currys the best place to get the parts

Hello All,
I had the same problem with my lift-off canister.
The canister to brush unit was corroded and would smoke.
I sent Bissell an email to ask where I could get replacement plug.
They sent me an email, with directions to cut off cord and put in envelope they were sending me.

Then they would send me an upgraded vacuum.

I wouldn't own any other vacuum!

Unplug it and lift off the canister half of the vacuum. Take a look at the white plastic around the pins of the male socket (that's where the brush motor gets it's power) and see if it's brown or black around the pins. I just discovered this in mine this weekend. One of the pins and socket are very badly cooked from arcing and the power connection is very intermittent at best. I'm searching for a source for the proper repair part right now. Found a source for the male plug here - www.elkypro.com/hoops2005/vacuum_parts/bissell/3750.html - but no female. Still looking and am open to suggestions.
