can i use chemicals to unblock my toilet. If so, what do I use and how?

our upstairs toilet has been blocked 4 a week. it flushes tho the water takes 4-6 hours to recede. have tried the toilet brush & a stick to no avail. i don't have a plunger & my hubby is working away, so i can't get to the local diy store to buy one. i have various drain and/or sink unblockers in the cupboard & tho can be used 4 b/room does not say anything about toilets on the bottle.

acid helps clean blocked toilets!!! open all the windows, just add them to the blocked toilet and immediately vacate from the area! flush after 30mins!

These chemicals are ok when used on small diameter pipes used on sinks etc but where a loo is concerned its a bit different.....the problem will be a mass of loo paper stuck in a bend somewhere and to shift this usually means accessing the downcomer pipe somehow. However if you can locate the inspection chamber which will be outside somewhere you can see if this is ok because if its not it will be full of sewage. I guess the upstairs loo will have to be disconnected and pulled away to reveal the soil pipe at the end of the day...the blockage is likely to be fairly close. You've got nothing to lose by using chemical cleaners though - they could work I suppose - but do read the instructions carefully as they are often caustic.
