Does the remote work? Aim the remote at a camcorder or webcam and press buttons. See the infared LED in the monitor picture? Yes, IR receiver in the TV is bad. No, disassemble the remote. Clean the metal contacts on the remote with a pencil ereaser, all else clean in warm soapy water and dry. Avoid other cleaners; because, the remote board may have painted resistors and uses carbonized rubber on the key pad. While the remote is open look for solder fractures at the IR LED.
