When you change the timing belt, replace all the pulleys/idlers/water pump as well - if the replacement belt does not line up with the pulleys etc it could break...my broken belt cost me a V6 Alfa engine.

The alternative is to go for a car with a chain-cam engine, eg a Saab which I have at present - keep changing the oil and filter regularly and it will just keep going - 250000 miles or more!

On modern twin cam engines i would fit a new belt and tentioners as a matter of course when changing a timing belt, cause you dont want a bearing to sieze in a tentioner and wreck all your good work and gubb your engine.
I always try to fit Gates timing belt kits cause they are used as original fitment in about 80% 0f engines.

timing belts on cars are a maintance item now ....if it has high milage it might save you some headaches down the road ....my sons ford focus had 116000 miles on it and when I changed the belt I just took a good look at pulleys ect ......
