Mend Murray 18 hp Clutch Hp

how to adjust clutch on 18 hp murray rider?

i put a new drive belt on my 18 hp murray w/46" deck. now when i push the clutch in, it takes off. when the clutch is supposed to be disengaged it won't even move, makes a ticking kind of noise up front. i've tried adjusting the clutch on the threaded rod, both directions and it doesn't make any difference. it's all backwards now. any clues??? thanks for your help in advance.
