How can I fix a tear on a leather jacket?

I have a tear on a lamb leather jacket. Is it possible to fix? If so, how?

Hi, yes, its going to look like a scar on the right side, but as I am often told by the clients I do this for, that's better than how it is at present. You will need to open the lining and turn jkt inside out to work on the wrong side. You need a tube of Kwik Grip, a plastic knife, a sheet of scrap paper to make a mess on, a piece of leather spare for re-inforcing,& maybe a narrow ice cream stick. Squirt a 10c size blot of glue on the paper. Use the ice cream stick into the glue to get just a bit to apply to the thickness of the leather ie the cross section, the depth of the skin. not the wrong side of the leather, and not the right side of it either, but the very tiny thickness of it. Apply to both sides of this thickness, wait 2-3 minutes, then press them hard together very carefully, check from right side that the scar is together corrctly & get it undone if its not or leave if it is. Then kwik grip the spare leather to the wrong side of the garment to hold it secure forever. This is a repair that I actually don't recommend you try, but above is how we do it and not many folks can be bothered because its such a risky result. After the work as above, I then place a lead weight on the right side of the leather repair, this lead is approx 15cm x 15cm x 7cm high..weighs ALOT and its job is to be like a pressure garment on a skin graft, it presses the scar to be as invisible as I can. You can approach us at any point during the job, but hard to reverse if you end up with a mess. We are Jackson Furs in Brisbane (can't mention the contact details here) but ou can ring or email, see the web. all the best! Cheryl. Jackson Furs.

Rip and Tear repair on soft smooth leathers is relatively easy. Use a rubber cement type glue to attach a back patch and then lay down the torn skins onto the back patch. If your jacket is black or brown you can touch up the area with a little leather dye found at Tandy leather stores across the nation. I am the owner of Midwest Leather Cleaners and Repair in Billings MT we patch quite a few lambskin tears every week. Sewing a hole closed is necessary some times but we avoid it as the results tend to look at little Frankenstein-ish.
Replacing the entire panel is the best repair however is can also be costly.
