8mm silent movie projector not working in forward?

My projector runs great in rewind, but when I put it in forward it makes the clicking noise and the picture is not possible to see. I Have pushed on the front loader arm as the manual suggested but nothing. Any suggestions would be great. This is an old silent movie projector. Bell and Howell 235AX 8mm.
