How to desensitise the alarm for pets?

how do you desensitise the alarm (Scantronic 9448 +) so that pets can come and go without triggering the alarm ?

the only way you can do this is to mask with tape a section of the detector (normally 1/3) from the bottom of the lens but not advisable. Depending on the type of pet (cat/dog ect) there are pet immune sensors but they are quite specific on size of pet too
