if i can still use iron without this part?

i was cleaning out my rowenta steam generator iron model dg811 rowenta expert. I had to do it manually as tube does not fit tap end as i was pouring water out of tank a thing which looks like a rawl plug came out of the tank, dont know what it as but can i still use iron without it?
