could you tell me my a star light keeps comeing on a picasso when l drive ?

hello i have a citroen xsara picasso 2.0hdi on my dash board a light keeps comeing on like a star and it stays on all the time wile im driving the car also there is a picture on my dashboard showing my exhaust with smoke comeing out and a sign at the end of it can you tell me whats up thanks
