Hard and bumpy to pull?

I was given an old chainsaw, Montgomery Ward (McCulloch) Mod.600068D Ser11-011532. I got the thing to run I cut half a tree down it was running ok. While I was using it I let it run out of gas. The oil gas mix was what was recommended. When I tried to restart it, it would not start. And it was a lot harder to pull; I waited till later and tried again, no luck. I took it apart to see if something was binding. Removed chain and blade, still hard to pull, thought the pull cable might be binding, When I pull the cable it only pulls out half way, and seams to get stuck over the compression stroke.that may be part of the problem. It seams to tern over easy with a socket wrench.
