whirlpool dishwasher problem?

Item: dishwasher, make: whirlpool, model:ADG 957.
A ceramic dish shattered during a wash cycle leaving small pieces of debris.These were dislodged from the filter in the base. Tried to run a rinse cycle after clearing up, but a grinding sound accompanied water refill. Water did not drain off, cycle stopped abruptly and start button keeps flashing and beeping. Have disconnected from the mains and shut off water supply but no response on restarting. Thanks
