rebuilding a lawnmower engine?

i have torn down my mower motor(yardman 6.5) now i'm ready to put it back together this is my 1st time doing this, i think i put the crank in first along with the piston right help? also any secrets on putting on new piston rings without breaking them?.

Crank in first, followed by the piston....set the rings at even gaps around the grooves, and pinch them in with your fingernails, gently coaxing them down into the bore. They'll go down ok.
