Hotpoint BD81 - Main oven works sometimes and not other times?

Main oven works sometimes and not other times when selected. The main element was replaced several months ago. Is it more likely to be the rotary oven selector switch or the thermostat switch, on occasion selecting a higher temperature and it works but not always?
