timing for needle & bobbin singer 538?

Please could you e-mail me how to go about re-timing the bobbin ( hooks) with the needle stroke.? Ihave replaced one gear for the foot feed..I could not remove the worn second gear but have managed to get the old and new work together, however the needle now knocks on the bobbin casing!!!! i cannot find step by step instructions on internet.
