how can i fix my nissan primera p12 1.8SE?

Water keeps getting into the plug of my rear back passenger light causing intermittent flashing of engine malfunction light and running rough, dropping revs. We need to stop the water getting into the light, as soon as we dry the light out the problems seem to go until water gets in again.
