how do i disconnect my car's security system?

i have a 96 saturn, and the remote for the security system will not work. i can get it fixed at a dealership 50 miles away, but the car has to be present. impossible. since it serves no purpose other than to keep the car from starting, i'd likje to get rid of it altogether. any advice?
