whats wrong with my timer on delonghi oven?

Model is DFS901SS and although the timer is flashing the oven cannot be activated using the normal procedure with the timer buttons. Why?

On my oven with a digital timer display the oven will not work if the display is flashing - it needs a time to be set first - any time will do just as long as the clock display stops flashing.

Perhaps your oven is similar.
