What to do following premature failure of De longhi Kettle?

My De longhi Cordless Electric kettle model KBO3001 was purchased from John Lewis Solihull on 03 June 2008. I thought I was buying a high quality product that would last for longer being a cut above the rest. However, after only 2 years of normal use the kettle has now stopped working and I am not only very disappointed and displeased with the product, but have lost confidence in the DeLonghi brand.

What advice can you give apart from 'go out and get a new one'. If I do that it certainly will not be a De Longhi product unless I have a satisfactory response to this enquiry. Can you recomend a local service engineer that could repair the kettle and how much do you think the repair would cost? I assume that the element requires replacing as I have checked all more obvious possible causes of failure. I paid 59.95 pounds for the kettle so I suspect that repair costs would make this a non-viable option.

Incidentally, I have also got a DeLonghi toaster and hope that this will provide greater reliability than the kettle.

I await your comments with interest.

to tell the truth mate,it does not matter these days if you spend ten pence or a hundred pounds for a kettle, its just your luck, things these days are built to a cost, not for quality, they are made in china or taiwan,
but have names like russel hobbs, porche, swan, even the i phone is made in hong kong,so dont be surprised if it goes wrong, and i am not saying that the aisian workers are bad,(my wife is from hong kong)am saying the west brow beat them to produce the goods very cheap,so they can increase their profits, better to buy cheap kettle, throw it away when done

I'm afraid I have no solution but you might be interested to know I have exactly the same problem - De Longhi kettle has stopped working entirely despite being only 18 months old. I can't find the receipt as it's not something you tend to keep for a product like this. Very frustrating.

You might ask the store - if you can show proof of purchase - for a replacement kettle.

Small domestic appliances are not made these days to be repairable - safety reasons.

My Magimix kettle cost £70 - when it failed the company (most unusual) replaced it - I had to send the old one back - they sent me a cheque to refund my postage!

And even if there was somebody close to you prepared to attempt to repair your kettle - the cost of parts and labour may well exceed the cost of a new one as you suspect.

The only thing left - given your constraint - is to boil water in a saucepan - on the stove.
