Mend Huskee 31A-240-731 Recoil Starter Problem

recoil starter on snowblower?

I have a Huskee single stage snowblower ,mod#31A-240-731. My problem is that the rope tore and retracted. I took the starter off and found that it does'nt come apart so you can't retrieve the rope. It has a techumsa engine. I never saw one that you weren't able to get at the inside. The housing Has a 6'' outside dia. It looks like the spindle is peened down in the center to hold it together. Any help would be great. More snow is in the forcast

Hi, you're right that engine recoil is not an easy fix. The pin can be removed but, it's a PIA. Have a look on Ebay, I bought a complete recoil assy for UK£16. As techumsa are no longer making engines there are many cheap parts on the bay.
