How can I fix my Sanyo mini cassette recorder Model M-G4?

I think the "play" button was pressed by mistake for a long period of time with a tape engaged. Now, whenever the play, rewind or ff buttons are pressed, the speakers emit a loud, low pitched, continuous annoying sound. This occurs with or without a tape in the machine. any ideas?

This fault has nothing to do with leaving it in play (though doing this can damage the rubber pinch roller).

Here, the internal rec/pb slider switch is dirty.
often , inserting a tape with no batteries in the unit and activating the record switch about 30 times ought to clear it temporarily.
