mountfield starting problem?

i have a mountfield empress 16sp lawnmower ihave a problem regarding the starting it does start straight away furst pull, runs for a few seconds and then dies ,try it again and the same thing happens,i have checked petrol air filter etc,but to no avail (any ideas would be welcome)..
