Tension problem?

Hi,
I have an E&R NT21 and I am having a couple of problems. Firstly, with the tension setting at 0 there is still too much tension on the thread and secondly, and perhaps related, when I try to sew the thread underneath the material bunches up and knots.
Any suggestions appreciated.

remove bobbin with bobbin case and thread cotton like you would while bobbin is in machine, that means through tension spring on bobbin case. hold the cotton in hand while hanging bobbin case with bobbin towards floor, bobbin case should not go down only when pulled slightly with other hand.adjust screw on bobbin case until you get tension close to this setting.if by change the tension will not come right you will have to remove both screws on tension spring and check for dirt between spring and bobbin case. hook timing is close to correct if the needle eye meet the hook on the upward movement(approx 5mm upwards)shout if you struggle

Thanks for the reply.

I will check the top tension release. I don't know how to adjust the bottom tension or check if the hook timing is correct, can you tell me how please.
The foot dog is working normally.

you did not say whether the top tension release when lifting pres foot. can only suggest you must remove top and see if tension discs release and then also adjust bottom tension to corect tension.is feet dog operating properly and is hook timing correct.check all but start at top tension
