Zig zag stitch not working \singer confidence 7470?

My relatively new Singer confidence 7470 has stopped zig zagging! the needle moves from side to side as it should but isnt picking up the bobbin thread when moving to left side? Ive changed needle, checked its in correctly & had the throat plate off & bobbin out to check nothings caught...................any ideas?

wow now you making it bit more interesting forgot your is top loader there is only one screw holding it.is the hook point nice and sharp,no blunt edge or blurr that you can feel.if you hold the handwheel, can you move hook back and fro, there should be no play.if you put needle bar far right, how does hook look in relation with needle.there should be no more than 1.5mm difference on height above needle eye if you compare with needle bar on far left.a bit diffucult to tell problem without seeing actual timing and related specifications.you can loosen screw in middle to adjust.this is by pulling hook upwards and turn but this normally give a big adjustment on timing and you dont want that.

yes, hook is at bottom of bobbin case .try this test to see if timing is in.turn handwheel in direction of normal working, that is towards you until needlebar start upwards motion.this test must be done with bobbincase removed as you then have a better view of hook and needle.turn handwheel some more and observe hook point versus needle eye.needle bar must be in far left position, hook point must be just above needle eye if timing is set correctly and almost touching needle back.at this stage needle point is approx 5mm from bottom turning point.there are 2 or 3 screws holding the hook that you can loosen to adjust hook but be carefull to keek correct clearance between hook and needle.good luck and get back if you need more help or try me on live chat

Yes it works straight stitch, needles in correctly also. When you say hook do you mean the part underneath the bobbin that go`s around? it does look like it almost touches as it passes needle on its downward motion. Tension is on auto as usual. If timings out can i adjust it? the instructions are very vague & dont cover this sort of problem.
Cheers for response.

you did not say if it does work when doing straight stitch.could be timing[is hook almost touching needle on upward stroke?]is hook still got its sharp point ,is hook turning when turning handwheel,is tension set correctly,is needle inserted correctly[cut out portion towards back]try all this if it still not working get back or take back to supplier if still under warranty
