I have purchased an old atco b24 all was well and havin fun when after about using it about 6 times the mower would only tick over, the throttle control didn't make any difference, thinking it might be a fuel problem pictures were taken and the carb and petrol tank was removed and cleaned and an inline filter was also added everything was replaced and the problem still exists anybody got any ideas ?
Very likely - the spring is a very weak one when new, so if it's streched or otherwise damaged, that will do it!

Thanks Phil for your answer I've been trawling the Internet to see if there is a solution and I've found out that if the spring has stretched that could cause the problem and having a closer look the spring looks well worn and out of shape so I'm going to try and take apart the shaft and see if I can locate a spring many thanks

The cable should move a spring-loaded mechanism, which in turn moves the throttle butterfly. If this mechanism is gummed up - even slightly - this will be the result. There is next to no force available from the governor spring, so it has to be FREE moving.
