Mend Compaq Presario 700 Laptop Power Hard Drive

MY COMPAQ PRESARIO 700 WONT START UP?

My compaq presario 700 was being used and just went off on its own,the screen went blank and there were no fan or other noises coming from it but the power light was still on.When the on button is pressed it makes the usual noise it does when the power light comes on,the power light then comes on but then thats it?Nothing else is now functioning on it including things like the eject button on the dvd drive.Could it be the hard drive or mother board?

I am dealing with the same problem. I was given a Presario 700us Notebook and it would not power on. Only lights. the owner replaced the battery and still nothing. I saw a post elsewhere that said something about parts working loose inside. It suggested dropping the computer about an 1inch to see if it helped. I could not bring myself to drop the system so I just gave it a light wack on the bottom and "bamm" the thing now works. Right now I am working on taking it apart to see what had come lose.

it is the mother board because the program still works and that happened to me before and also because the power jack passes energy to the mother board before than the hard drive or anything else!!
