Lubrication? Model # 9005 Singer Sewing Machine?

My machine is no longer running as fast as it used to. When I turn the wheel it turns hard. Are there gears that need lubricated?

Turn your machine on to it's side, where you will see a (black) plate. in the middle of the plate there should be a nut, unscrew the nut' towards the rear of the machine you will find a philips screw' 'caution' for some of these machines have a small black washer' its probably down by your feet by now. To your left' down and under the plastic cover by the bobbin case area 'there you'll find another straight head screw remove that, and it will get you right underneath the bobbin case where you can remove all the cob-webs' actually thread fibers. Don't go crazy and saturate these friction mechanisms,a light oiling will do. To make sure that I get a complete oiling' I turn the machine on and slightly pressing down on the petal to turn the mechanisms' Don't stick anything in there or your fingers' just listen to the way the mechanisms slowly start to run smoother as you complete your oiling. While your down there' take a minute and amaze yourself how this machine functions' it's amazing seeing all the mechanisms working in harmony. oh'yea! don't forget the washers, your machine will rattle if you don't, so much for oiling if you lose them!!

Hello Helen,
Not too sure if you have a two piece plastic body on that machine or not, if you have you cannot get to the inner parts without taking the body apart which is not easy, I would oil all moving parts that you can see sparingly with WD40, clean out the bobbin case area and a few drops of oil in there, a few drops only on top of the needle bar and any moving parts, if you can take the bottom off the machine a few drops of oil on all moving parts.
