under tension wrong?

i recently purchased a white sew and quilt sewing machine model 1730 the tension was fine for awhile then about half way throudh a bobbin the under tension went and the thread statred to knot on the bottom. i have tried to adjust the tension on the top off the machine and also the bobbin. all i have done so far is to get a stright line on the bottom. what am i doing wrong and how can i get it back to sewing again??

Hello Patrick,
Start at the beginning, when you thread the machine make sure the presser foot is up so the thread goes between the tension discs, top tension between 4 and 6, bottom tension should be enough to pull the thread through with some resistence, if it is too tight it will pull the thread down, slacken off the larger screw on the bobbin case about a quarter of a turn at a time.
If you have set the tensions and the stitches are not forming at all or start missing stitches then you will need to retime the machine which you can do yourself with a bit of patience, I have timing instructions if you e-mail me.
