electrolux 212 caravan fridge?

when i started our fridge up all i get is a strong chemical smell what is wrong and how can i fix this

does the chemical smell like ammonia? could be that the system is leaking which is very bad news. if ammonia is leaking, you may see yellowish deposits around the leak area. as these systems are under pressure, it can be quite dangerous.
