Smeg FAB28 not working ?

Ive been a bit stupid and decided to swap my Smeg fridge freezer for a smeg fridge using ebay.
I sold my smeg in fab condition for its age 2003 with the electrics looked after well and in good order.

The one I have purchased has dirty/rusty electrics and the power cable has bite marks in (no exposed live wire but very close to it!)
My husband wouldn't let me turn it on and was fuming with me! The next day I did as I needed to know if it worked. Well the fridge light flashed once and then nothing.... no noise at all and the fridge does not cool.
The light only flashed once so I thought maybe it was a fuse and bought a new one but still nothing.
I have contacted the seller and not had a response and as I paid cash I am not covered under the buyers protection (silly girl I know!)
So if I can fix it and make it safe all the better any ideas? I am assuming it is a power issue as there is no noise and the light is now off so it seems there is no power getting to the fridge?
