How can I get the engine to run smoothly?

My Qualcast Suffolk Punch with a Tecumesh Aq148 engine runs but with the engine hunting even with the tank full of fuel is this a air cleaner problem as I have recently cleaned it or what?

I had the same problem on my Suffolk Punch 17S with the AQ148 (E-45520E). I fitted a complete aftermarket carburettor on eBay from GHS Part number - 6391. I set up mixture and idle as for a Tecumseh adjustable carb and it works a treat.

That's a classis symptom of a lean fuel mixture. Since the carb is not adjustable, the jet must be partially blocked. A good carb service should sort it.

Confirm by slowly closing the choke, If there's a point at which it smooths out, diagnosis confirmed.
