Singer 522?

Hi guys, I have just bought a singer 522, plugged it in and the foot pedal started smoking and started running the machine. I have read your previous threads on removing the resistor, but what do I do when there are 2 of them ? Please could someone advise me thanks x

Just cut them out and throw them away.

They're Capacitors not Resistors.

Capacitors can eventually decompose and smoke - the oil inside burns and bursts out.

Your foot pedal does not need a capacitor - they're a hang-over from previous times intended to reduce electrical interference to radio & TV.

Good Luck...

Based on info from some other suppliers, try this:

I wonder if this is the "resistor" to which you are alluding:

For a simple 275V capacitor it seems well over-priced but I can't make out the capacitance value to offer you an electronics industry equivalent.

275V is an absolute minimum, IMHO. If you can get and fit a 350 or 400 V rated item, so well and good
