I'm trying to repair a foot pedal type 286 for a Bernina sewing machine. All components on the circuit board check out okay except the large 'capacitor' 750uF which appears to be short circuited. As the output from the capacitor goes to the middle terminal of the plug to the machine - my question is is this purely a capacitor or has it other components internal to the package?
I removed the 750uF cap and it still doesn't work. Whilst the cap was connected the machine would give a little jump start then stop. With the cap disconnected the motor doesn't jump. This cap is external to the circuit board and is connected to one side of the micro switch and the middle terminal of the plug coming from the machine. Any ideas ? Thanks.

It's just a capacitor - nothing more - a defective capacitor - remove it and don't bother replacing it - it's in the circuit just to act as a spark suppressor - to prevent radio interference - no other purpose - you will not notice that it's gone.
